MOUNT VERNON — Arthur E. Beckholt, 91, of Mount Vernon, died Saturday evening, Feb. 9, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born May 15, 1921, in Gambier, son of the late George and Minnie Belle (Laymon) Beckholt.

Arthur served his country in the Army during World War II and retired from Pittsburgh Plate and Glass with 25 years of faithful service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and just being in the great outdoors.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of over 22 years, Wanetta (Boyce) Beckholt; daughter, Elaine Craw of Mount Vernon; son, Richard (Mary) Beckholt of Newark; step daughters, Susan (Timothy) Birie of Fredericktown, Shelia (Steve) Zieg of Galion and Sandy Overholt of Mansfield; stepsons, Steve (Alverta) Brown of Marengo and Stan Brown of Wooster; grandchildren, Erika (John) Fultz of Nevada, Jessica Beckholt of Athens, Bo Shuck of California, Matthew (Erin) Craw of Bellville, and Sally (N. Ryan) Clark of Mount Vernon; stepgrandchildren, Chris Birie, Beth Birie, Matthew (Paula) Zieg, Jenny (Robbie) Marcucci, Nathan Overholt, Shannon (Mike) Donelson, Anya Brown, and Brenden Brown; great-grandchildren, Jacob Kincade, Abbey Kincade, Cleo Craw, Brooks Craw, Sebastian Clark, Anna Louise Clark, Trevor Shuck, and Syriah Shuck; stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacob Zieg, Lilina Zieg, Kierstynn Marcucci, Peyten Marcucci, Gretchen Marcucci, Brandt Marcucci, Chase Baumberger, and Zoe Baumberger; and a brother, Eugene (Marilyn) Beckholt of Mount Vernon, the last survivor of 14 brothers and sisters.

In addition to his parents; Arthur was preceded in death by first wife, M. Louise Beckholt.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with Victor Slutz officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in Arthur’s name.
