MOUNT VERNON — Shirley A. Ewalt, 86, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Country Club Retirement Campus with her loving family at her bedside.

She was born March 4, 1926, in Utica, to the late John S. and Leontine (Jewell) Hull. She married John S. Ewalt on Aug. 28, 1963, and was married for 37 years. Shirley was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where she participated in C.A.T.’s (Christian Activity Time). She also attended Community Bible Church with her sister, Mary. She enjoyed many outings with her brother and sisters as well as extended family. She also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and “family” at Country Club Retirement Campus. Shirley was known for her sweet smile, her laughter, and her famous quote, “Goddie love it.”

She is survived by her sons, Michael L. Beeman of Texas and John S. Ewalt of Gambier; two sisters, Mary E. Boucher of Mount Vernon and Ila J. Butler of Wooster; a brother, Lloyd E. Hull of Bellville; four grandchildren, Kristina (Jaime) Felan of Texas, Jason (Yolanda) Ewalt of Howard, Robert (Stefanie) Beeman of California and Emily Beeman of Texas; as well as five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Briana, Mackenzie, Gabriel and Natalie; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Ewalt; and two brothers, Myers and William Hull.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Community Bible Church, 7300 Thatcher Road, Mount Liberty, with Pastors Denny Allen and Chuck Johnson officiating. Private burial will be held in Mound View Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the Ewalt family.
