MOUNT VERNON — With deep sorrow and love, the family announces the loss of our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle. Lawrence Guy Layman, 84 passed away Feb. 28, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born to Floyd Layman and Letha Conkling Layman on June 17, 1928, in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Both parents are deceased.

He leaves his loving wife, Kathleen Marie Baker Layman, whom he wed on April 16, 1948, and his devoted son, Larry Layman, both of Mount Vernon, Ohio. His surviving siblings include: his brother, Harold (Darlene) Layman of Port Angeles, Wash.; sister, Jenny (Jim) Durbin of Fredericktown, Ohio. Surviving in-laws are Opal Carter, Donna Nicholls, Paul (Debbie) Baker, Betty Baker, all of Mount Vernon, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence served our country as part of the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He faithfully attended and was a cherished member of Ebenezer Methodist Church (Mount Vernon, Ohio) where he held several positions, including board member, Sunday school superintendent, sang with the group Ambassadors For Christ, sang with his wife at area nursing homes, and photographed weddings. He was a retired farmer and construction worker. His hobbies included photography, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and traveling.

A celebration of Lawrence’s life will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home (619 E. High St., Mount Vernon) where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Susan Stevens will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Knox County Hospice, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
