MOUNT VERNON — Icy Johnson, 82, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at her residence.

Icy was born June 29, 1930, in Blue Diamond, Ky., to John Mitchell Shepherd and Altha (Melton) Shepherd.

Icy served with the Women’s Army Corps during the Korean War and she was a former employee of the Flxible Company in Loudonville.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Johnson, whom she married Sept. 22, 1951; sons, Daniel (Cheri) Johnson of Mount Gilead and Rodney (Paula) Johnson of Hamden; daughters, Debbie (Gregg) Stricker and Altha Jane Johnson; both of Mount Vernon and Judy Ann (Paul) Wilson of Butler; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her brother, Frankie Shepherd of Newport, Ky.

Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Huckaby, Lona Combs, Fannie Strain, and Lillian Stevens; and brothers, Woodrow Wilson Shepherd, J.M. Shepherd and Crant Shepherd.

Private funeral services will be Tuesday at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
