MOUNT VERNON — Leland James “Jim” Pealer, 75, of Mount Vernon, passed away March 15, 2013, after a 20-year battle with COPD.

He was born March 19, 1937, in Amity, to the late Lewis and Annabel (Doup) Pealer. Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne. He worked almost 20 years for Flxible in Loudonville before his illness forced him to retire early.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Erica and Shannon Hedge of Mansfield; a niece, Anna Horlacher of Mount Vernon; and a nephew, Matthew Pealer of California.

Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Pealer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to services. Burial, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County in Jim’s memory.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at Country Court for their care, compassion and friendship over the years Jim spent with them. Also, thanks to Hospice of Knox County for making Jim’s last days much more comfortable.
