MOUNT VERNON — Rose S. Korns, 88, of Rose Avenue, Mount Vernon, passed away March 21, 2013, at The Ohio Eastern Star Home with her son at her bedside.

She was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Maywood, Ill., to the late William Carlton and Elsie (Hackett) Spencer. She was a 1942 graduate of Proviso High School, where she played cello in the high school orchestra. Rose moved to Mount Vernon in 1948 after marring Clifford W. Korns. She was employed by Cooper’s. Rose had many friends through the years of bowling and golf leagues. She was proud of the hole-in-one she made at Tomahawk Golf Course.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Debbie) Korns of Gambier; two sons, Gary and Don Korns, both of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Tim, Christopher and Julia Korns, all of Mount Vernon, Sarah (Brian) Payne of Howard; three great-grandchildren, Spencer, Wesley and Isabelle Payne; a brother, Russell Spencer of Eagle River, Wis.; and a sister, Marge Felsch of North Riverside, Ill.; several nieces and nephews including special niece, Susan (Pat) Turner.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Korns; sister, Dorothy Spencer; brother, William Spencer; brothers-in-law, John (Eileen) Korns, and Otto Felsch.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Friends may call Sunday one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
