MOUNT VERNON — James E. Darby, 68, of Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 5, 1944, in Bakersfield, Calif., to the late J.E. and Hellen (Howard) Darby.

James worked as a literature evangelist for the Seventh day Adventist Church. He was a member of the Seventh day Adventist Hill Church. James enjoyed old cars or working in his flower garden.

He is survived by his wife, Carla (Hanson) Darby whom he married Nov. 30, 1980; two sons, James (Anne) Darby of Perris, Calif., and John (Mirta) Darby of Redmond, Ore., stepson-in-law, Rodney Davis; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a brother, Dennis (Diane) Cottrell of Poway, Calif.

Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by a stepson, Douglas Brehms; and a stepdaughter, Dawn Davis.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 5 p.m. in the Seventh day Adventist Hill Church. where friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Fred Shoemaker will be officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service at a later date.
