BELLVILLE — Harold Wilson Smith, 71, of Bellville, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday morning, March 24, 2013, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Shelby, son of the late Howard and Mary (Shoup) Smith. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of sergeant. He attended of the North Bend Church of Brethren near Butler and was a former member of the Fredericktown Saddle Club. Harold had several different careers over the years; he drove milk truck, was a dairy farmer, a lumberjack, worked construction, and at last he drove cement truck. He enjoyed raising mules and making maple syrup in the spring. Harold will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend who was always there to lend a helping hand.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Smith; and brother, Loren Smith.
Harold is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon (Cooperrider) Smith, whom he married Oct. 23, 1971; his caring daughters, Missy (Rob) McConkie and Marcie (Todd) Leedy of Bellville; grandchildren, Orrin, Cora, Lane, Wyatt and Monae; brothers, Herb (Lorretta) Smith of Shelby, Lee (Gail) Smith of Ashland, Tom (Kay) Smith of Crestline and Tim (Tammy) Smith of Bellville; sisters, Barb Tharp of Butler, Teresa Turner of Columbus, Cindy Smith and Linda Whisler of Bellville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 81 Mill Road, Bellville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Pastors Patrick Bailey and Gary Kochheiser officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington with military honors provided by American Legion Post 535.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jefferson Township Fire Department, 470 Main St., Bellville, OH 43813.
