MOUNT VERNON — Ruth O. Day, 92, of Longitude Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Mount Carmel/St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

She was born June 8, 1920, in Crooksville, Ohio, to the late Harold and Augusta (Hoops) Levering. Ruth retired in 1985 as owner and operator of Day’s Jewelers in Mount Vernon. She was a member of the Knox Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Gay Street United Methodist Church, and served as Worthy Advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Ruth was a loyal supporter of the Mount Vernon City Schools and enjoyed attending the baseball and basketball games.

She is survived by her son, Rick (Barbara) Day of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Vickie (Richard) Eaton of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leva Hedges of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Day; four sisters, Louise Allen, Katherine Davis, Maxine Vanatta, Bonnie Watts; a brother, Harold Levering; and an infant sister.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
