CENTERBURG — W. James “Jim” Sipes, 80, of Centerburg, died Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013, at his residence.

He was born July 18, 1932, in Galion to the late Maurice and Bonita (Price) Sipes. He was a 1951 graduate of Galion High School and retired from the U.S. Navy with 23 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 460 and charter member of AMVETS Post 59 Centerburg, Naval Reserve Association. Jim enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard and watching Western movies.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Phyllis (Fling) Sipes, whom he married Nov. 23, 1976, in Centerburg; son, Thomas J. (Kathy) Sipes of Galion; daughters, Tara J. (Randy) Anderson of Mount Gilead, Tamara J. Sipes of Galion, Tina J. (Kelly) Wright of Mount Gilead; stepson, Darrin (Peggy) Perkins of Centerburg; stepdaughter, Stephanie (Jim Jr.) Dial of Centerburg; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Mike (Karen) Sipes of Galion; sisters, Evelyn Cook of Galion, Jackie (Jim) Quaintance of Galion; aunt, Betty English of Galion; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Roger Crego officiating. Interment, with military graveside honors, will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg.
