MOUNT VERNON — Doris “Elaine” Shuman, 86, of Rose Ave., Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Country Court Care Center in Mount Vernon.

She was born April 17, 1926, in Mount Vernon to the late Troy and Emma Bell (Schorr) Jones.

Elaine was employed at the Knox County Head Start in the Day Care Center. She also was a Foster Grandparent at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center and was a member of the Salvation Army Church here in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her son, Gary Shuman of Mount Vernon; her daughter, Judy (Elden) Mowery III of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Roger (Julie) McFarland, Josh Shuman, Angela Langston; two great-grandchildren, Maddie and Averi Shuman; her brother, Ronald (Betty) Jones of Mount Vernon; her sister, Betty Bemiller Irwin of Mount Vernon; and her sister-in-law, Doris Jones.

Besides her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Shuman; her brothers, Robert and Glen Jones; and her sister, Barbara Smith.

Friends may call Thursday, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. A service will be held Friday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
