MOUNT VERNON — James C. Gibson, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born July 14, 1932, in Florence, to Beryl and Ruth (Smith) Gibson.

James was a Korean Army veteran. He graduated from Andrews University and then obtained his master’s from Bowling Green State University. James was a teacher, naturalist and a world traveler. His hobbies included gardening and bike riding with his wife on the Kokosing Gap Trail.

He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Jo Anne (Stout) Gibson; his six children, Peggy Smith of Dayton, Ron Gibson of Oberlin, Susan Gibson of Laurel Lake, Fla., Ken (Manuela) Gibson of Berlin, Germany, Karen (Errin) Hart of New London and Brenda (Keith) Scheiderer of Mount Vernon; a sister, Frances (Dick) Rieser of Ashland; brother, Fred (Sandy) Gibson of Port Clinton; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Russell Gibson.

The family will observe private burial in Skeen Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home is handling the funeral services for the Gibson family.
