MOUNT VERNON — Betty Jean Shafer, 85, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 8, 1928, in Decatur, Ill., to the late Harold and Rose (Stephens) Lindsley.

Betty was an active member of the Seventh day Adventist Hill Church in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed painting and shopping for a “new pair of shoes.”

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sharon (George) McCorkle of Nashport; a granddaughter, Kim (Chad Franks) Tedrow; stepgrandchildren, Todd McCorkle, Tina Williamson, Tera Sentivany, Sara Workman, Matthew McCorkle and Christa McElfresh; two great-granddaughters, Breah Lei Prosser and Alayna Tedrow; stepgrandchildren, Michalla Franks, Bryce Franks, Desiree Franks, Josh Parker; and eleven stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Willis Fisher of Decatur, Ill.

Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Shafer, whom she married on July 13, 1947; a grandson, Brian Willis; and a sister, Patricia Fisher.

Friends may call Friday, from 1 to 3 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Willis Fisher and Pastor Fred Shoemaker will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
