NEWARK — Ruth Eleanor Allton, 88, of Newark, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Sterling House in Newark.
She was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Zanesville, the daughter of the late Samuel and Hazel (O’Brian) Parkinson.
She was a graduate of Lash High School in Zanesville and had been a scrub tech at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville and Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark. Following retirement, she was employed as a cook in the cafeteria at Wilson School and The Eatery as a baker.
Ruth was a member of the Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Hand Bell Chior. She also served as a guest soloist at weddings and other functions. Ruth loved music and was proud that during her teen years, she sang on the radio and for four years, at the Weller Theater in Zanesville.
She is survived by seven children, among whom are Frances and Danny Nutt of Howard. They have two children, Russ (Jackie) Nutt of Mount Vernon; and Tina Walton of Fla. Also surviving are, several other grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale W. Allton; a son, Larry Thompson; and brothers.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Newark.
