MOUNT VERNON — Thomas Lee Tanner, 78, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, April 15, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born May 4, 1934, in Loudonville, son the late Ralph E. and Corinne (Heller) Tanner.

Thomas worked in the maintenance department at Chattanooga Glass for over 34 years. He enjoyed fishing and being in the great outdoors. Thomas’ greatest passion in life was spending time with his family. Also, he could fix anything that was broken. He helped many people and thoroughly enjoyed helping others.

Thomas is survived by his sons, James (Carol) Tanner of Gambier; Jon (Karen) Tanner of Walhonding; and Jeffrey Tanner; his daughters, Connie (Mark) Brill of Denville; NJ and Cindy (Steven) Burgett of Gambier; grandchildren, Tristan Tanner, Tony Tanner, April (Ben) Lowell, Jeremy (Courtney) Auskings, Allison Trikouros, Cole (Laura) Burgett, Weylin Burgett, and Travis Burgett; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Tanner of Fredericktown; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Leah Alberts; and his canine companion, Bandy.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by an infant son, Doug; and a brother, William Tanner.

The family will have a memorial service celebrating the life of Thomas at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church near Mount Vernon with Pastor Susan Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
