MOUNT VERNON — Virginia Ruth Motherall Barry died April 24, 2013, following a short illness.

She was born in Milford, Conn., in 1924. She was the daughter of Townsend Gibson Motherall and Estelle Brownell Motherall. She moved to Mount Vernon in 1933. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1942. In 1946, she graduated from Miami University in Oxford.

She taught first grade in the Mount Vernon school system and fourth grade at Kentucky Schools in Cleveland.

She married Fred Barry Jr. in 1948.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Alan (Margaret Natoli) Barry of Huntsville, Ala., Barbara Anne Barry of Mount Vernon, and her beloved Lucy Anne Barry of the home. She is also survived by her sister, Grace Hoagland; niece, Elizabeth (Randy) Hoagland Schwalm; sister-in-law, Margaret Barry Riley; nephew, Steven (Laura) Riley; nephew, Mark (Becky) Riley; niece, Margaret (Fred) Sisson; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Barry Jr.; her parents; her stepmother; Grace Headington Motherall; her brother, Henry G. Motherall; and her nephew, Thomas Hoagland.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, The Book Club, the Town and Country Garden Club, the Mount Vernon Country Club, Women’s Association of MVCC, The Old Homestead/Sunset Club, Chapter 236 Order of Eastern Star, and longtime volunteer for Distinguished Young Women (Ohio Junior Miss).

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Saturday. Private interment will be at Mound View Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home is handling the funeral services for the Barry family.
