ASHLAND — Stanley W. Burns, 80, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Hospice House in Ashland.

He was born March 26, 1933, in Ashland, to John Winfield and Mary (Hammond) Burns, and was a resident of Ashland all of his life. He was a homebuilder who constructed many homes in Ashland and surrounding counties. He was a member of the Ashland First Christian Church, where he served as a trustee and sang in the choir. He was involved in the Lions Club, the Ashland Lincoln Highway Association, the Elks, and worked at an entrance gate at the Ashland County Fair for many years. Stan enjoyed showing his antique cars, playing golf and cards.

His wife of 54 years, Gloria P. (Braden) Burns, passed away April 23, 2009.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cinda and Bob Price of Battle Creek, Mich., Stana and Nelson Shogren of Mansfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd K. and Heidi Burns of Fredericktown; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters, Gaynor Yoxtheimer, Gretchen and Don Aten, Sharon and Dean Bates, Judith Lybarger, Eleanor and Dale Wells, and Pam and Bill Jackson; one brother, Doug Burns; and one sister-in-law, Sherry (Gary) Bums, all of Ashland.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Burns in 1999; and a brother, Gary Burns in 2004.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at First Christian Church, 1425 King Road, Ashland. Interment will be at Ashland Memorial Park. Friends may call at 3 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Ashland. Funeral arrangements were conducted by Heyl Funeral Home.
