MOUNT VERNON — Opal L. Kochis, 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born May 8, 1929, in Mount Vernon, and was the daughter of the late Martin and Mabel (Johnson) Brooks. Opal was a member of The Salvation Army Church in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her five children: son, Martin Kochis; daughters, Dixie (Phil) Frye, Betty (John) Beach and Mary Sapp, all of Mount Vernon, and Susan (Larry) Lester of Howard; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Kochis; son, Jacob Kochis Jr.; granddaughter, Phillis Frye; grandson, Cody Lester; a brother, Ralph Brooks; sisters, Isabell Blanton and Virginia Cline; two brothers-in-law, Glen Blanton and Walter Cline Jr.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in Opal’s memory to Hospice of Knox County.
