MOUNT VERNON — Warren Jack Poland, 90, of Wolfe Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Blooming Grove, Ohio, to the late Walter and Mercel (Leapley) Poland. Warren was employed at General Motors and retired after 30 years of employment. He was a member of the Flying Goldfish Club, the 453rd Bomb Group Club, the Sabbath Keeper Motorcycle Ministry-Central Valley Chapter-Ceres, California, and a collector of coins. He was also a member of the Fredericktown Seventh-day Adventist Church. Warren was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force 453rd Bomb Group, during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by three sons, Ted (Ruth) Poland of Mount Vernon, Robert (Karen) Poland of Zanesville and Ronald Poland of Mount Gilead; daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Poland of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren, Darren Poland, Nathan Poland, Seth Poland, Sean Poland, Shannon Clemens, Vinson Poland, Angela Poland Caudill and Andrew Poland; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Poland of Federal Way, Wash.; a sister, Patty Sheets of Richwood; a brother-in-law, Virgil Hayes of Kenton; and a sister-in-law, Dana Poland of Kenton.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Poland; a son, James Poland; a grandson, Richard Poland; two brothers, Walter and Tim Poland; two sisters, Margaret Poland and Kathleen Hayes; and a former daughter-in-law, Judi Lenhardt.

Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Friday beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Loren Siebold officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Warren’s name to Knox County Joint Veterans Council, care of Frank Cumpston, 8704 Ransom Road Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
