MOUNT VERNON — Freda “Gerri” Stewart, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away May 10, 2013, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

She was born July 1, 1924, in Newark, to the late Jesse F. and Bertha A. (Trent) Haynes.

Gerri was a member of the Knox Chapter 236 of the OES, Elks Lodge, Daughter’s of the American Revolution and attended Newark High School. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed her bowling league.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann Dickerson of Howard; her sons, William L. (Jenny) Stewart of Indianapolis and David S. (Terri) Stewart of Houston, Texas; a sister, Harriett A. Applegate of Newark; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Gerri was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Stewart in 2000; a grandson, John Jacob Henthorne; and a son-in-law, Ralph Dickerson.

Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m., at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11a.m., with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark.
