NEWARK — A funeral service celebrating the life of Irene Greene, 85, of Newark will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Family of Faith Community Church, with Pastors Theodis Foy and Recoir Puryear officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Greene died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Quitman, Ga., to the late Jonas Golden Sr. and Serilla Grant. Mrs. Greene was a member of Mount Zion Holy Union Church of God. She was an ordained minister. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, plants and flowers. Above all she loved God and her family.
Survivors include her children, Henry Greene Jr. of Sandusky, Walter Greene Sr. of Newark, Lindsey Greene of Reedsville, Curtis Greene, Gregory Greene and Cecil Greene, all of Newark, Jerlene Greene of Atlanta, Ga., and Cassandra (Gregory) Williams of Newark; 33 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Carnegie; sisters, Mattie McKinney and Mildred Roundtree.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Greene Sr.; a son, Michael Greene Sr.; a daughter, Deborah Sue Greene; four brothers; and two sisters.
Friends and family may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main St., Newark.
