WALHONDING — Mona J. Cook, 74, of Walhonding, went to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Mona was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Columbus, to Herman and Vivian (Smith) Wellman. She was a nurses aid and had worked and cared for the elderly for many years. She was a member of TOPS in Mount Vernon and the Church of Christ.
Surviving are her daughters, Joyce A. (Steven) Pelton of Walhonding and Jeanette L. Power of Mount Vernon; sons, John W. (Mindy) Cook Jr. of Mount Vernon, Jerry L. (Mary) Cook of Virginia and Jim L. (Lisa) Cook of Fredericktown; grandchildren, Patrick Cook, Jennifer Cook, Josh Focht, Jennifer Croft, Ashley Hurst, Matthew Cook, Risa Smith, Garrett Jordan, Bradley Cook, Angela Robinson and Chandra Hall; 24 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rose (Bob) Green of Charlotte, N.C., and Bonita (Harold) Barbery of Mount Sterling. Besides her parents, Mona was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Cook Sr. in 2008.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
