MOUNT VERNON — Marjorie J. Tyson, 94, of North Catherine Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at her home.

She was born July 29, 1918, in Newton Falls, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Ruth (Pemberton) Hughes. Marjorie lived in the Knox County area since 1937 and was married to her late husband, William Tyson Sr., for over 63 years. She was a former Deaconess at the First Baptist Church where she was a member. Marjorie was employed for over 45 years at the Hotel Curtis and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for over 25 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Charles) Fleming of Mount Vernon; her son, William (Joan) Tyson Jr. of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Elmer (Alice) Hughes of Heath; and her sister, Mary Booth of Utica.

Besides her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, William Tyson Sr.; her brother, Jack Hughes; and her sister, Maxine Hughes.

Friends may call Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. An Order of Eastern Star service will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service officiated by the Rev. Bob Hendrix. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
