MOUNT VERNON — M. Jean Sovine, 83, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Putnam County, W.Va., died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Putnam County, W.Va., daughter of the late James Henry and Pansy Evelyn (Davis) Hodges. Jean was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. She was a devoted Christian, bringing up her children and grandchildren in the knowledge of God’s love. Jean was also a great prayer warrior for many brothers and sisters in Christ.
Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Donald S. Sovine, Feb. 6, 2005; sons, Dwight and Eddie Sovine; and a sister, Ruth McAllister.
Jean is survived her daughters, Rita (Ralph) Stuller of Mount Vernon, Connie (Don) Tuggle of Mount Vernon, Karen (Randy) Johnson of Butler, Bonnie (Wes) Normant of Mount Vernon and Pam (Denny) Young of Mount Vernon; sons, Samuel (Tina) Sovine and Dan Sovine, both of Mount Vernon; 21 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Hodges of Charleston, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Jean at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hodges Family Cemetery on Hurricane Creek Road, Putnam County, W.Va.
