MOUNT VERNON — Helen G. Hollis, 91, of Mount Vernon, died Monday afternoon, May 20, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Westerville, to the late Earl and Grace (Fletcher) Young. She was a graduate and valedictorian of the Harlem Township High School Class of 1939. She was employed at Curtiss-Wright in Columbus and Nestles in Sunbury, where she met her husband. After her marriage, she became a homemaker and a partner in farming with her husband in the Condit, Lock and Mount Liberty areas.

Helen loved being and spending time with her family and watching her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, David (Becky) Hollis of Bolingbrook, Ill., Martha (Robert) Holbrook of Galion, Stephen (Emilee) Hollis of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jessica) Holbrook, Bradley Hollis, Todd (Anne) Hollis, Nathaniel Hollis, Lauren Hollis; great-grandchildren, Noah, Caleb, Margaret, Alina Hollis, Samantha Holbrook; sister, Margaret Fisher of Sunbury; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clark Hollis, on Jan. 24, 2007, and they were married Jan. 2, 1944; sister, Ruth Hughes; brothers-in-law, William Hughes, William Fisher.

Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Friday at 10 a.m., with Pastor David Spaulding officiating. Following the services Helen will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Trenton Cemetery.
