FLUSHING, N.Y. — Sherry “Buck” Gladwin Reed, 68, originally of Mount Vernon, died Feb. 1, 2013, in Flushing, N.Y. He was born Sept. 16, 1944, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to George William and Marguerite G. (McCleary) Reed.

Sherry was a 1964 Mount Vernon High School graduate and served as a Fireman Apprentice in the U.S. Navy until retiring with an injury in 1966. He traveled across the country as a professional drummer in a performance band until he moved to New York City in 1973. Working as a security guard, he lived the past 40 years as a loved and respected community member in Flushing.

He is survived by his sister, Judith A. (Lee) Isom of Inverness, Fla.; three nieces, Wendy (Larry) Marsinek, Andrea (Steve) Miller and Kendra (Walt) Mathews-Clark; four great-nephews; seven great-great-nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Ruth McCleary of Mount Vernon.

Sherry was preceded in death by is parents; and his brother, George Donald Reed.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens on Friday at noon. Friends and family are welcome. Memorial contributions may be made in Sherry Reed’s name to Flushing YMCA, Attn: William Nelson, 138-46 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY 11354.
