MANSFIELD — Fred Hudepohl, 61, of Mansfield passed away at home Sunday, May 26, 2013, following an extended illness.

The son of John E. and June L. (Taylor) Hudepohl, Fred was born June 12, 1951, in Kane, Pa. In 1969 he graduated from Mount Vernon High School.

A military veteran, Fred was honorably discharged from the US Army. For 32 years, Fred worked for Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon as a computer operator. Very active and health conscious, for decades Fred practiced body building. Rarely did he miss a day at the gym. Fred collected guns, especially pistols, and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. Fred loved animals and often rescued dogs and cats that were in need of help.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Deborah (Messer) Hudepohl of Mansfield; sons, Nathan and John Clayton Hudepohl both of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Benny Hudepohl; brother, Dean Hudepohl of Fredericktown; his beloved canine companion, Tony; and feline companions, Wolfgang, Katarina, Anastasia, and Ivan.

Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by his brother, John “Mitch” Hudepohl.

A memorial reception will be held Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where military honors, performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail, will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to MedCentral Hospice, Knox County Humane Society, or Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.

In Fred’s honor, casual attire is encouraged.
