MOUNT VERNON — Walter Brooks O’Dell, 78, of Miller Avenue, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Walter was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Harrison County, W.Va., to the late Leslie and Pansy (Kern) O’Dell. He served in the U.S. Army security agency in Germany and Europe from 1957 to 1960. Walter retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Continental Can in Mount Vernon. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working with wood. Walter was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Case) O’Dell; two daughters, Pamela Ballard of Mount Vernon and Tamara Youell of Florida; two stepdaughters, Carol (Jeff) Laser of Bellville and Dr. Kathy Rinnert of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Diane) O’Dell of Mount Vernon; and a sister-in-law, Sandy O’Dell of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Alan, Fred, Robert and Darrell O’Dell; two sisters, Joan Frye and Phyllis Hubbard.

The family will observe a graveside service later this summer. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is handling arrangements for the O’Dell family.
