OOLTEWAH, Tenn. — Marlene (Trott) Benge, 79, of Ooltewah, Tenn., formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was born June 19, 1933, in Mount Vernon to Ralph Samuel and Reva (Skeen) Trott. Marlene graduated from Mount Vernon Academy in 1951, then attended Washington Missionary College (now Washington Adventist University) in Takoma Park, Md. In January 1955, she married Robert E. Benge. She graduated from Mid Ohio Practical Nursing School in Mansfield in 1970. In 1974, they moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where she worked as a LVN. Since 2008, she had lived in Ooltewah. Marlene enjoyed crocheting, reading and sports as well as spending time with her family. Marlene was a charter member of the Knox County First Families. As a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, she actively served as an elder, teacher and community service leader.
Survivors include a son, Robert C. (Deborah) Benge of Ooltewah, Tenn.; a daughter, Susan Benge of Mount Vernon; two grandsons, Robert H. “Bo” Benge of New York City, N.Y., and Kyle T. (Kaleigh) Benge of Iguitos, Peru; a sister, Judy L. (Trott) Poland of Mount Vernon. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert E. Benge; a sister, Beverly A. (Trott) Satterfield.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
