FREDERICKTOWN — Ronald J. “Slim” Kollas, 76, of Fredericktown, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

Ronald was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Antigo, Wis., to Vernon and Violet (Warner) Kollas. He graduated from Antigo High School Class of 1954; and married Marilyn Hammontree on May 2, 1958, in National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C. Ronald retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1977 after serving his country honorably for 22 years. In 1999, he retired from Adelphia Cable Co. Ronald was a member of the Palmyra Church of Christ, and the Kokosing Valley Model Railroad Club.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (Hammontree) Kollas; daughter, Suzan (Kenneth) Graves; sons, Steven (Patti) Kollas, William Kollas and Jeffrey (Michelle) Kollas; grandchildren, Vernon (Meghan) Kollas, Robert (Gie) Kollas, Jerimy Kollas, Amber (Wayland) West, Christopher Collins, Terry Collins, Shelbi Ronkainen, Nicolas Kollas; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Judith (Patrick) Zachmeyer; niece, Rhonda (Jeff) Ries; and nephew, David (Martha) Zachmeyer. Besides his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by an infant son.

Friends may call Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Palmyra Church of Christ, where a service honoring the life of Ronald J. “Slim” Kollas will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Troy Northrop officiating. Private burial, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Palmyra Church of Christ, 21184 Zolman Road, Fredericktown, OH 43019; or the Fredericktown EMS Association, 139 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, OH 43019.

The Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown is honored to have been chosen to serve the family of Ronald J. “Slim” Kollas.
