AKRON — Robert Hannon Colopy, 86, of Akron, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at his home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Barberton, Ohio, to the late Judge Stephen and Mary Hannon Colopy, and grew up in Akron. He attended St. Martha’s and St. Vincent’s elementary schools. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy in 1944 and immediately entered Harvard College. In early 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Treasure Island, Calif., during World War II and served as an electronic technician. He later graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and from Boston College Law School.
On Aug. 27, 1966, he married Conchita Morales of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and together they settled in Akron. After serving from 1966 to 1972 as Assistant Law Director for the City of Akron Law Director’s Office, Robert was elected Judge for the City of Akron Municipal Court in November 1971, and was subsequently re-elected until his retirement in 1996.
Preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Hudson, and his son, Benedict, Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Conchita; eight sons and seven daughters-in-law, Robert and Valerie, Michael and Steffi, Paul and Anna, Matthew and Josephine, James and Jocelyn, George and Jamie, Joseph and Karalyn, and Thomas; 16 grandchildren, Christina, Maria, Julia, Anika, Alexis, Miles, Chad, Briana, Elaine, Emily, John Carlos, Fiona, Ximena, Xiomara, Xalvador, and Xaviera; and nine nephews and nieces.
Calling hours will be today, June 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Road, Akron, 330-836-3100. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Hilary’s Church in Akron, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.Copyright The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
