HOWARD — Barbara Joann “Jody” Heaton, 80, of Schenck Creek Road, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Knox County, to the late Blaine Burl and Cleo Mae (Stull) Kunkel. She helped her husband as owner/operators of the former Heaton Appliances in Mount Vernon. She was also a partner in many farm chores at the home, enjoying mowing, flowers and gardening. She was a wonderful homemaker, and an excellent cook. She was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William D. Heaton of Howard, whom she married Nov. 4, 1951. Also surviving are three daughters, Becky (Tony) Roddy of Walhonding, Sharon Ratai of Howard and Nancy (Gary) Weaver of Obetz; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and one expected great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Laurie (Heaton) Mills and Diane (Heaton) Waite.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Howard UMC, with Pastors Lee Cubie and Tom Orr officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, and also one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday. Visit www.fischerfuneralhome.com.
