MOUNT VERNON — John K. Vasbinder, 85, of East Burgess Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Mount Vernon to the late J. Kenneth and Nellie (McGugin) Vasbinder. John was employed at Chattanooga Glass for over 16 years, Buckeye Candy and Tobacco, Tomahawk Golf Course, Apple Valley Golf Course and Hiawatha Golf Course. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed skeet shooting and fishing. John was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1948-1950.

He is survived by his loving companion of over 37 years, Thelma Billman; his daughter, Linda Hatton; two brothers, David (Carol A.) Vasbinder of Mount Vernon, Thomas Vasbinder of Mount Vernon; his sister-in-law, Florence Vasbinder of Fredericktown; and numerous nieces and friends.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Vasbinder; and his sister, Doris Hawkins.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be held Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s name may be made to The Salvation Army or Knox County Humane Society.
