GAMBIER — Russell G. Lucht, 80, of Kenyon Road, Gambier, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Mequon, Wis., to the late Arthur and Mathilda (Krause) Lucht Sr. Russell earned his B.A. in Religion from Andrews University in Michigan. He served as a minister with the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 15 years before retiring in 1995, after 26 years as secretary and treasurer from the Seventh-day Adventist Conference.
Russell cherished the quality time he spent with his children and grandchildren, and always looked forward to the next family vacation. He enjoyed horses and taking care of his vegetable and flower garden. Russell was a past member of the Rotary Club and was a current member of the Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Jean Jones, whom he married June 2, 1953; two sons, Stephen (Peggy) Lucht of Springboro, Ohio, D. Todd Lucht of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Deborah (Rob) Hayes of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Rebekah (Randy) Conley of London, Ohio; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Lucht Jr. of Mequon, Wis.; and a sister, Beverly (Alvin) Kind of Waukesha, Wis.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Alois Lucht; two sisters, Irene Lucht and Marjorie Grant.
Friends may call Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church, where a funeral service will begin at noon. Pastor Fred Shoemaker and Elder Donald Reynolds will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
