HOWARD — Retha C. Goossens, 84, of Howard, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon

She was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Howard, to the late Charles and Lucille (Alexander) Potes. Retha was a member of the Church of Christ in Texas and graduated from Midwestern State University with an associate degree in nursing. She was a licensed LVN at Wichita Falls Hospital in Texas.

Retha is survived by a son, Lawrence Allen (Diann) Goossens of Mount Vernon; four daughters, Virginia Porter of Fort Worth, Texas, Beverly L. (Omar) Bouchard of Kermit, Texas, Terry Lea Folk of Mount Vernon and Wendy Goossens of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Carol) Potes of Tulsa, Okla., David Potes of Mount Vernon, Gordon (Betty) Potes of Mount Gilead; two sisters, Elsie (Earnest) Richards of Mount Vernon and Linda Potes of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents, Retha was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Potes; three sisters, Virginia Payne, Unis Potes and Dorothy Dinsmore; and stepmother, Charlene Potes.

The family will observe a private graveside service in Workman Cemetery in Danville at a later date.
