GALION — Margaret Elaine (Mills) West, 89, of Galion, entered into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday evening, Oct. 9, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the Magnolia Terrace Care Center in Galion.
On Nov. 9, 1923, she was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, one of three children of the late Russell and Martha (Olvey) Mills. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School, attended business college, and later worked for The Ohio Power Electric Co. for 20 years. On Feb. 14, 1964, Margaret married the love of her life, Earl West, at the Chester Baptist Church. They shared over 45 wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised one daughter, Melanie. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2009.
A woman of faith, Margaret attended the former Vine Street Church of Christ and Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where she was involved in teaching Sunday School and Children’s Church programs and was a member of the Workers For Christ (WFC) Class. After marrying Earl, she then became an active member of Chester Baptist Church for 45 years, where again she was involved in Sunday School teaching, Ladies Aide, and had a passion for “Operation Christmas Child” Project, collecting items throughout the year.
Margaret enjoyed traveling, especially to Walt Disney World, where you might find her racing to the next attraction. She also spent many years volunteering at Highland West Elementary School, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and watching her grandchildren grow.
She will be missed by her one daughter, Melanie (Andrew) Studer of Galion; three grandchildren, Jordan Ann, Nicholas and Mason Studer; her “adopted” grandchildren, Lindsey Grimm, Joe Ulrey and Jacob Ulrey; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Mills of Columbia, Mo., and Chystal Cook of Newark; an aunt, Katherine Garzieri of Mount Vernon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Dailey; and her brother, Russell “Bud” Mills.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Funeral services honoring her life will immediately follow there at 4 p.m. Graveside burial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Margaret’s nephew, the Rev. John Cook, will officiate.
Her wish was to have memorial contributions made to “Operation Christmas Child” at Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000; to spread the joy of Jesus and Christmas around the world.
