Jackets topple Wildcats
After coming off two losses on the road, the Mount Vernon High School girls basketball team returned to The Hive and defeated Hilliard Davidson, 55-52, on Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start trailing 9-5 at the end of the first quarter, and 22-18 at the end of the first half. Mount Vernon head coach Doug Savage had no choice but to challenge his girls once in the locker room.
Host Freddies trump Trojans
The Fredericktown High School boys basketball team took advantage of the Trojans slow start in the Friday night game and picked up another Mid-Buckeye Conference win with a 45-31 victory over the Trojans. Fredericktown is 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the MBC. Centerburg fell to an overall record of 3-2 and 2-2 in the conference.

Public Library Funding
When the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County remodeled its Mount Vernon building in 1988 it also expanded its services. Library patrons could check out videos and CDs and also connect to the Internet. However, state funding has not kept pace with the needs over the last few years and many of those services are now at risk.

It was definitely a cold day for the Christmas Walk in Fredericktown, but it was perfect conditions for the ice sculptures constructed by the team of artists of Columbus Rock on Ice.
Centerburg celebrates the Christmas season
Roughly 100 well-bundled spectators braved arctic gusts of wind to watch the Centerburg Village Christmas Parade on Friday and take part in holiday festivities. Sirens, truck horns and whistles announced the vehicles in the parade.
