Cowboys up to challenge
It was muddy and gray on Saturday morning for the Knox County Horse Park ’Cowboy Challenge,’ but the cowboys and cowgirls still came out to ride.
Scots edge out host Freddies for boys title
For the second weekend in a row, the Highland High School boys track team stepped on the bus to head home carrying a championship trophy. The Scots placed first out of a field of 10 teams at the Fredericktown Invitational on Friday night. Bursts of rain and dropping temperatures throughout the evening weren’t helpful, but the boys still continued to bust out some solid marks and times.

Gunning for a gobbler
Keith Hess of Mount Vernon bagged this 17-pound turkey early this morning. Hess measured a 10-inch beard and seven-eighths of an inch spurs on the turkey, which he shot while hunting on Zion Road near Gambier. Hess said he planned to have it mounted. The spring season, which began Monday, runs through May 20.

The weather outside was so cold that the rain felt like liquid ice, but inside the commons of the Mount Vernon Middle School, Saturday night, the music was red hot as the Mount Vernon High School Mellow Jackets hosted its annual Tops-N-Pops spring jazz concert.
Habitat holds ’blitz build’
The Habitat for Humanity of Knox County was founded in 1988 as a nondenominational, Christian-based organization dedicated to developing affordable housing for families that could not qualify for conventional loan programs. It is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International.
