MOUNT VERNON — Ora Vance Swank, 90, of Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord who she loved greatly Dec. 31, 2013. She was born May 19, 1923, in Stacy, Va. to Henderson and Jennie (Runyons) Matney.
Ora attended the Fairview Freewill Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed tending to her flower beds and cherished time spent with her family.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Ireland Vance Jr. of Mount Vernon, Bev (Kayleen) Vance of Columbus, Avonell (Ralph) Parker of Missouri City, Texas, Rinda (Ralph) White of Mount Vernon, Gary (Linda) Vance of Mount Vernon, Greg (Lauri) Vance of Fredericktown and Vera (Jim) Bridges of Mount Vernon; daughter-in-law, Sharon K. Vance of Tennessee; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Garney Stacy and Josephine Hess, both of Virginia.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ireland L. Vance; second husband, Roscoe Swank; a son, Sonny Vance; great-grandson, Garrette Vance; daughter-in-law, Sharon A. Vance; and sister, Lena Looney.
Friends may call Friday at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon from 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Matthew Pond officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Garden.
