MOUNT VERNON — Jack R. Spearman, 79, of Briar Wood Drive, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born April 23, 1934, in Mount Vernon, to the late Kenneth and Christina Spearman. Jack graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1953. He retired from PepsiCo Inc. after 34 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as deacon, elder and trustee. Jack served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957.

He had a happy and cheerful smile for everyone he met and was always eager to help others. He was a man of deep faith and positive attitude. Jack’s favorite pleasures were time spent with family and playing cards with friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed long bicycle trips.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara; beloved cat, Max; his daughter, Kathy (Mike) Mosholder of Palm Harbor, FL; his son, Richard Spearman of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, David, Daniel, Lisa, Nicolas, Kelsey and Jessica; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Don (Barbara) Spearman of Mount Vernon; and his sister, Darlene (Jim) Overly of Utica.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Jerry Spearman.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Knox County which gave Jack wonderful care and support.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Johnathan Fettig officiating.
