MOUNT VERNON — William M. Styers, 81, of Danville-Amity Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Knox Community Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on February 12, 1932, in Knox County, to the late Virgil and Kathryn (Moxley) Styers. William was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953. He was employed for over 39 years at Cooper-Bessemer, where he worked in the Entronics Department. He later worked as a courier for First-Knox National Bank from 1995 to 2007. William was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Utica. He enjoyed working outdoors, tinkering in his garage and restoring his John Deere tractor. Most of all, he loved the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, of over 57 years, Mary (Flecknoe) Styers; his son, Doug (Tricia) Styers of Fredericktown; two grandchildren, Brody and Elly Styers; two brothers, Ronald (Hazel) Styers of Mount Vernon, Jerry (Marjorie) Styers of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Ramona Jean Pruitt of Mount Vernon, Elaine (Dave) Needles-Blake of Mount Vernon, Cheryl (Bob) Nethers of Mount Vernon; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Nauman of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Nauman.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held on Wednesday at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, beginning at 11 a.m., with Minister Trevor Brailey and Minister Aaron Veyon officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
