MOUNT VERNON — Dennis L. “Tater” Stricker, 60, of Hyatt Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Knox Community Hospital, from an apparent heart attack. He was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Mount Vernon, to the late John Harold and Ethel Maxine (Bower) Stricker. Tater worked in the fabricating division of Rolls Royce for the last 27 years. He was a member of the IAM Local Lodge 90, Moose Lodge in Mount Vernon and served as a volunteer firefighter for the Fredericktown Community Fire District from 1978 until 1990.

Tater was a simple man that enjoyed simple things in life. He always looked forward to the preparation for the annual D.R. Hilton Deer Camp with family and friends where he served as the head chef. That week of bonding and sharing friendships with everyone was something he always cherished. It was his ultimate goal that he achieved, in seeing the completion of the cabin at the camp.

If he wasn’t working on one of his John Deere tractors, he could be found tinkering with his Z28 Camaro that he proudly showed throughout Ohio. Tater enjoyed watching NASCAR on the weekends and was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. He recently became a proud owner of his new “Cadillac” of cars, his GMC Sierra truck.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Smith) Stricker; three children, Heather (Tommy) Swihart of Fredericktown, Nichole (Jeremiah) Scott of Fredericktown and Jason (Jessica) Stricker of Mount Vernon; stepchildren, Rocki (Dan) Huddleston of Marengo, Butch (Tracy) Weaver of Sunbury and Joe (Abbey) Weaver of Delaware; nine grandchildren, Kellan and Tate Swihart, Makayla and Kelsey Scott, William and Tristan Huddleston, Trevor Weaver, and Kora and Kaleb Weaver; and a brother, Roger (Cheryl) Stricker of Mount Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown where a funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. The family will observe a private burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dennis’s name may be made to the Fredericktown Firefighters Association, 139 Columbus Road, Fredericktown, OH 43019.
