MOUNT GILEAD — Jack D. “Robbie” Robertson, 58, of Mount Gilead, died Thursday morning, Feb. 20, 2014, at the Mount Carmel West Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family following a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

Jack was born Oct. 17, 1955, in Mount Vernon, the son of Jesse and Barbara (Kirtley) Robertson. He was raised in Sparta, graduating from Highland High School in 1974, among the highest in his class. In 1978, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, followed by a master’s degree in international business at Kent State University.

He worked in rubber chemical purchasing and technical sales at the Goodyear corporate headquarters in Akron and later held positions in several other chemical firms. He felt most cherished at Polymerics Inc., in Cuyahoga Falls, where he was employed until his passing.

After completing his master’s degree, Jack reunited with his high school sweetheart, Sandra Johnson, whom he married Nov. 28, 1987, at his parent’s home in Sparta. They shared 26 years of marriage and lovingly raised three daughters, Sarah, Jessica and Andrea.

Jack was an avid sports enthusiast, especially of softball, and devoted his own time and resources to helping his daughters and other young women in the community succeed at the game. With a group of others, he founded the Morrow County Girls’ Athletic Association. Jack also loved to golf, playing often with his parents and winning several tournaments and scramble games.

Genealogy was another life-long passion. Jack spent forty years working to enrich our understanding of the Robertson family name. He was a member of the Friends of the Library in Mount Gilead, where he took particular interest in the genealogy library.

Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandy Robertson of Mount Gilead; three daughters, Sarah Robertson of Shaker Heights, Jessica Robertson of Oxford, and Annie Robertson of Columbus; and his parents, Jesse and Barbara Robertson of Sparta.

His family will greet friends Saturday, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morrow County Dog Shelter, 80 N. Walnut St., Suite A, Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
