MOUNT VERNON — Gary L. Russell, 54, of Mount Vernon, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, March 13, 2014. He was born July 5, 1959, in Mount Vernon, son of the late Kyle and Louise (Ritchey) Russell.

Gary was a handyman and a master gardener. He was known throughout the area for his beautiful irises and garlic. Gary also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kim; stepdaughter, Shannon (Paul) Castle of Mount Vernon; stepgrandchildren, Cynthia, Joshua and Chloe; brother, Wes (Edith) Russell of Mount Vernon; sister, Wyola (Gene) Robbins of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a stepgranddaughter, Elizabeth.

A graveside service celebrating the life of Gary will be held Tuesday, at 1 p.m., in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
