MOUNT VERNON — Ruth McCleary, 99, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday evening, March 15, 2014, at Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. She was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Newark, daughter of the late Fred and Ella (Singer) McLain.

Ruth was a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church in Mount Vernon. She was a registered nurse for the former Martin Memorial and Mercy Hospitals in Mount Vernon.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Sue McCleary of Miamisburg and Judy (Bob) Pace of Apison, Tenn.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Jim Omlor; and a special friend, Susan Binge.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Hanson McCleary in 1968; and sisters, Blanche Perrin and Helen Omlor.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, from noon until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Ruth at 2 p.m., at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon, with Pastor Fred Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, in Ruth’s memory.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the 6th floor staff at Knox Community Hospital and the caring staff at Country Court Nursing Home for the loving care they provided to Ruth.
