MOUNT VERNON — Rita J. Balcom, 60, of Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born July 14, 1953, in Mount Vernon, to the late Gordon and Jeanne (Ferguson) Young. Rita was the co-owner of Balcom Rentals and employed by Balcom Brother’s Roofing. She enjoyed reading, riding her four wheeler and sitting in the sunshine. But most of all she loved the time she spent with her family.

Rita is survived by her husband, Steve Balcom; two sons, John and Robert Balcom; her daughter, Mary Balcom; her granddaughter, Miriah; her sister-in-law, Kathy Balcom; her brother-in-law, Jeff Balcom; two nieces, Jody Thompson and Lori McKeever; a nephew, Joshua Balcom; her mother-in-law, Eleanor Balcom; and relatives, Carl and Oneta Balcom.

Besides her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Young.

A memorial service will be held Friday, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, beginning at 6 p.m., with Rev. Marvin Haught officiating. The family will observe a private burial at a later date.
