MOUNT VERNON — Daniel L. Poland, 67, of Sychar Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 13, 1946, in Mount Vernon, to the late Leo Lewis and Edna (Hughett) Poland. Dan retired from the Continental Can Company and was a member of AMVETS Post 95. Whether it was hunting, fishing or camping, Dan loved spending his free time outdoors. He enjoyed family time and the fishing and hunting trips they took to Canada, Michigan and Pennsylvania. In his most recent spare times, Dan could be found tinkering in the garage or somewhere holding a cue watching his two sons and friends play a good game of pool and maybe placing a bet or two. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Jayne (Lenhardt) Poland, whom he married March 19, 1978. His children, Chris (Dawn) Poland of Delaware, twins, Troy (Crystal) Poland of Powell and Trent Poland of Newark, and Mark Poland of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Matthew Poland, Samantha Poland, Taylor Poland and Tristen Poland; a sister-in-law, Judy Poland; and several nieces and cousins.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Poland.

Friends may call Saturday, from 2-4 p.m., at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. with honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. Pastor Don Matolyak will be officiating. The family will observe a private burial in Maple Grove Cemetery.
