MOUNT VERNON — Manzie L. Buck, 95, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon. She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Tazewell Co, Va., to the late Luther and Laura (Waldron) Linkous.

Manzie was a former cook at Sparta Elementary School for over 30 years. She was a faithful servant for her Lord and Savior as a long-time member of the Sparta Advent Christian Church, often transporting many of her friends to Mount Vernon for grocery shopping and appointments. She taught Bible school and bowled in a Fredericktown league into her 90’s.

Manzie is survived by her sons, Glenn Roger (Lynn) Buck of Mount Vernon, Howard (Sandy) Buck of Galion and Steve (Ann) Buck of Fredericktown; brothers, Ralph (Betty) Linkous of Sunbury, and Randall (Tina) Linkous of Tazewell, Va.; sister, Lucille (Jack ) Repass of North Tazewell, Va.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a niece.

Besides her parents, Manzie was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn A. Buck; three brothers; and two sisters.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m., at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, with a funeral service Wednesday, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery in Sparta.
