MOUNT VERNON — William C. Miller Sr., 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away April 7, 2014, at Emeritus at HillenVale.

He was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Ind., and was the son of the late Oscar and Lucille Miller.

Bill was a true patriot, serving with the Marine Corps in World War II, a highly decorated Naval Aviator and retired a Lieutenant Colonel. After the war Bill and his wife, Marge, settled and raised their family in Mount Vernon. Bill was a retired CPA, and participated in many local clubs, and service organizations throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Emily Miller Jr. of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Margaret A. (Jeff) Miller of Springfield, Marjorie L. (Jason) Booth of Mount Vernon, and William C. (Susan) Miller III of Thornville; great-grandchildren, Jacob Booth, Katherine Miller and Wyatt Miller; along with his sister, Jean Winans of Payne, Ohio.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Harris Miller; a son, Richard H. Miller; infant daughter, Barbara Miller; and brothers, Bob, Jack and J.O. Miller.

Family will observe a private graveside funeral service in Mound View Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the funeral services for the Miller family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to The Activity Department at Emeritus at HillenVale or Acclaim Hospice.
