MOUNT VERNON — Richard Paul Hardin, 80, of Allen Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 15, 1934, in Bellville, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Christina (Zirkel) Hardin. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1958. He was employed with the Penzoil Company in Mansfield, Ohio. Richard was a member of Amvets Post 95 Mount Vernon and American Legion Post 535 in Bellville.

He is survived by his wife, Jane (Fletcher) Hardin, whom he married Aug. 5, 1978; three daughters, Carol (Earl) O’Bannon of Riverside, Calif., LuAnn (Francis Shellenbarger) Truex of Mount Vernon and Pamela (Dave) Fuhrmann of Palm Harbor, Fla.; stepson, Gene (Kim) Shoman of Franklin, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Hardin.

A graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., in Ebenezer Cemetery. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Richard Paul Hardin.
